SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/6-106.2  from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 6-106.2

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that the Secretary of State may grant a waiver to the requirement that religious organization bus drivers hold a valid driver's license for 3 years prior to the date of application if there was a break of 30 days or less in holding a valid driver's license during that 3 year period.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5Section 6-106.2 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/6-106.2)  (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 6-106.2)
7    Sec. 6-106.2. Religious organization bus driver. A
8religious organization bus driver shall meet the following
9requirements:
10        1. is 21 years of age or older;
11        2. has a valid and properly classified driver's license
12    issued by the Secretary of State;
13        3. has held a valid driver's license, not necessarily
14    of the same classification, for 3 years prior to the date
15    of application; however, the Secretary of State may waive
16    this requirement if the applicant has a break of 30 days or
17    less in holding a valid driver's license in the 3 years
18    prior to the date of application;
19        4. has demonstrated an ability to exercise reasonable
20    care in the safe operation of religious organization buses
21    in accordance with such standards as the Secretary of State
22    prescribes including a driving test in a religious
23    organization bus; and

1        5. has not been convicted of any of the following
2    offenses within 3 years of the date of application:
3    Sections 11-401 (leaving the scene of a traffic accident
4    involving death or personal injury), 11-501 (driving under
5    the influence), 11-503 (reckless driving), 11-504 (drag
6    racing), and 11-506 (street racing) of this Code, or
7    Sections 9-3 (manslaughter or reckless homicide) and 12-5
8    (reckless conduct arising from the use of a motor vehicle)
9    of the Criminal Code of 1961 or the Criminal Code of 2012.
