AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 5466

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 5466 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5Historically Significant Artifact Preservation Act.
 
6    Section 5. Historically significant artifacts.
7    (a) Any State agency or constitutional officer that
8exercises control over a historically significant artifact
9owned by the State shall ensure, to the best ability of the
10State agency or constitutional officer, that this artifact is
11properly maintained and held in an environmentally safe area at
12all times. A State agency or constitutional officer shall not
13loan or transfer control of historically significant artifacts
14for any political purpose or event.
15    The provisions of this Act shall not impair or otherwise
16impede the ability of a State agency or constitutional officer

1to move, maintain, or transfer control of historically
2significant artifacts in accordance with standard internal
3procedures.
4    (b) For the purposes of this Act:
5    "Constitutional officer" means the Governor, Lieutenant
6Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Comptroller,
7and Treasurer.
8    "State agency" means all officers, boards, commissions,
9and agencies of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch,
10including, but not limited to, the Historic Preservation
11Agency, the Architect of the Capitol, and the Department of
12Natural Resources.
 
13    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
14becoming law.".
