HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Pastor
4August Minor of Chicago, who passed away on February 17, 2014;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Pastor Minor was born on June 18, 1929; he
7graduated from high school in New Orleans, Louisiana; he
8received his Associates of Art Degree from Crane Junior College
9and studied Theology at Moody Bible Institute; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Pastor Minor was called into the ministry in 1961;
11he joined the Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church in 1964 and
12was ordained in 1966; in the spring of 1966, he was elected to
13serve as pastor of the Union Hill Congregation and served there
14as pastor for 47 years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Pastor Minor's leadership saw Union Hill
16Missionary Baptist Church grow its membership, furnish hot
17meals for those in need, and provide scholarship opportunities
18for students to continue their pursuit of a higher education;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Pastor Minor had a steadfast commitment to
21uplifting lives and serving the needs of families and

1individuals throughout the community; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Pastor Minor was married to the late Lucile Davis
3Minor, and they had 3 children, Timothy, Deloris, and Nina;
4therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7we mourn the passing of Pastor August Minor, and extend our
8sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
9and loved him; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Pastor August Minor as an expression
12of our deepest sympathy.
