SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joseph Nelson Cook Sr. of Channahon, who
4passed away on January 18, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joseph Cook Sr. was born on March 7, 1931, in
6Buckingham; his parents were William J. and Dorothy J. Cook;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Joseph Cook Sr. was a lifelong resident of
9Channahon and a graduate of the last class of Channahon High
10School; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Joseph Cook Sr. was a proud American and served
12his country with distinction as a member of the United States
13Army 1st Cavalry Division during the Korean War; during his
14service, he was listed as missing in action for over 121 days
15behind enemy lines and was one of the few men to return home
16from Task Force Crombez; he was the recipient of the Silver
17Star, five Bronze Stars, and two Purple Hearts for his
18meritorious service; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Joseph Cook Sr. was a proud member of the Will
20County Carpenters Union Local #174 and retired after many years
21of service; he was also a former Park Ranger and a caretaker of

1the McKinley Woods Forest Preserve; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Joseph Cook Sr. was a devoted Cubs fan; he enjoyed
3fishing and hunting with his son, gardening, and carving duck
4decoys; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joseph Cook Sr. was a lifetime member of the DAV
6and the Grundy County Rod and Gun Club; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Joseph Cook Sr. was preceded in death by his
8grandson, Benjamin Nephi Cook-Klossing; his parents; his
9beloved brother, Wesley D. Cook; and his lifelong best friend,
10Robert "Chiv" Chiovatero; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Joseph Cook Sr. is survived by his dearly loved
12wife of 48 years, Mary Alice Cook; his son and namesake,
13Channahon Mayor Joseph N. Cook, Jr. (Laurie Pillion); his
14devoted daughter, Gloria L. (Scott) Cook-Richardson; his
15special son, James Tyler Cook; his grandson, Alexander J.
16Cook-Klossing; his granddaughter, Jessica M. Cook-Klossing;
17his siblings, Bill (Dorothy) Cook, Robert (Gladys) Cook, and
18Beverly Keast; and his many nieces, nephews, and friends;
19therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with

3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
