SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ralph E. Johnston of Johnsburg, who
4passed away on October 28, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ralph Johnston was born on August 23, 1925 in
6Latham to Harold and Stella (nee Gasaway) Johnston; he attended
7the University of Illinois, where he earned his Bachelor of
8Science in Electrical Engineering; he served his country for 4
9years in the United States Navy during World War II; he married
10Madeline Berner on May 26, 1951 at St. Nicholas Church in
11Chicago; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Ralph Johnston was employed by the Claude S.
13Gordon Company in Richmond for 40 years, eventually becoming
14their Vice-President of operations; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Ralph Johnston was an avid gardener and a golf
16enthusiast; he also enjoyed wintering in Florida and Arizona
17and loved to attend his grandchildren's sporting events; he
18liked to volunteer at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Ralph Johnston was preceded in death by his wife
20of 61 years, Madeline, and by his parents; and

1    WHEREAS, Ralph Johnston is survived by his children, John
2(Susan) Johnston and Mary Lou (Gerald) Assell; his
3grandchildren, Jill (Chris) Martelli, Danny (Jenny) Johnston,
4Jacob (Monica) Chalupa, and Zachary Chalupa; his
5great-grandchildren, Gracie and Benjamin Chalupa; his
6step-grandchildren, Jeremy, Gabby, and Alex Assell; and his
7many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Ralph E. Johnston, and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Ralph Johnston as an expression of
15our deepest sympathy.
