SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Russell J. Kipkowski of Spring Grove, who
4passed away on July 26, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Russell Kipkowski was born in Chicago on August
615, 1938 to Roman and Ladislava "Lottie" (nee Shronkowski)
7Kipkowski; he lived with his family in the Norwood Park
8neighborhood and attended the William J. Onahan Elementary
9School and Taft High School; he served in the United States
10Navy and married Barbara Joanne Borucki on November 23, 1959 at
11St. Thecla Catholic Church in Chicago; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Russell Kipkowski proudly served in the United
13States Coast Guard for 20 years; he and his wife's travels took
14them from Juneau, Alaska to the South Pole, from San Francisco
15to Hawaii, and from Vietnam to Marathon, Florida; although he
16sailed on many ships throughout his career, it was the USS
17Rockaway and her crew that earned a special place in his heart;
18he was decorated with numerous honors and awards, including the
19Bronze Star and Purple Heart; he retired as a Chief Warrant
20Officer in Seattle, Washington; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Russell Kipkowski pursued his passion of a career
22in Law Enforcement as a Deputy Sheriff for 19 years in the King

1County Sheriff's Department in Washington State; after
2residing in Venice, Florida for a short period of time, he and
3Barbara moved to Spring Grove to be closer to family; he
4achieved his lifelong dream by serving as a Marine Patrol
5Officer on the Chain O' Lakes for the McHenry County Sheriff's
6Office; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Russell Kipkowski was a member of the McHenry
8Masonic Lodge, the Tebala Shriners, and the Medina Shriners
9organizations; he actively participated in parades around the
10area as a "Genie" on his magic carpet; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Russell Kipkowski was preceded in death by his
12parents, Roman and "Lottie" Kipkowski; his brother-in-law,
13Hank Seligmann; and his nephew, Kenneth Seligmann; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Russell Kipkowski is survived by his wife of 54
15years, Barbara; his children, Natalie (Robert) Duma and John
16Kipkowski; his granddaughters, Sheridan and Bergen; his
17sister, Hermina "Mickey" (Hank) Sasse; his sister-in-law,
18Darlene (the late Hank) Seligmann; his brothers-in-law, Gerald
19Borucki and George (MaryAnn) Borucki; his many nieces and
20nephews; and his beloved Jack Russell rescue dog, Snickers;
21therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2Russell J. Kipkowski, and extend our sincere condolences to his
3family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Russell Kipkowski as an expression
7of our deepest sympathy.
