HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are
3pleased to honor those who have given their lives to protect
4the people of this State; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Deputy Sheriff Elizabeth Mazella Edwards, the
6youngest daughter of Wayne and Nancie "Susie" Edwards, was born
7on June 2, 1979; she attended Hardin County schools, where she
8had many, many friends; she was active in softball, band, and
9cross-country; and
 
10    WHEREAS, In May of 1997, Deputy Sheriff Edwards was
11baptized at the Hardin County Church of Christ; she graduated
12from Hardin County High School and spent a year at
13Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee, and
14attended Southeastern Illinois College; and
 
15    WHEREAS, After the events of September 11, 2001, Deputy
16Sheriff Edwards joined the United States Army Reserves and
17proudly served her country; she went on to serve in another
18capacity, becoming a Deputy for the Hardin County Sheriffs
19Department in the fall of 2005; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Deputy Sheriff Edwards was killed in the line of
21duty while responding to a traffic accident on February 12,

12006; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
4SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the portion of
5Illinois Route 146 from the Pope County line to the city limits
6of Elizabethtown as the Deputy Elizabeth Edwards Memorial
7Highway; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
9is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
10State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
11giving notice of the name of the Deputy Elizabeth Edwards
12Memorial Highway; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Deputy Elizabeth Edwards and the
15Secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation.
