SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
410 ILCS 642/20

    Amends the Home Health and Hospice Drug Dispensation and Administration Act. Provides that the Department of Public Health may by rule provide for the possession and transportation of greater quantities of specified drugs by a home health agency, hospice, or authorized nursing employee.

1    AN ACT concerning health.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Home Health and Hospice Drug Dispensation
5and Administration Act is amended by changing Section 20 as
6follows:
 
7    (410 ILCS 642/20)
8    Sec. 20. Possession of specified drugs.
9    (a) A home health agency, hospice, or authorized nursing
10employee of an agency or hospice, in compliance with this
11Section, may possess or transport the following specified drugs
12in a sealed portable container for the purpose of
13administration to the agency's or hospice's patients pursuant
14to the patient's treating health care professional's orders:
15        (1) Sterile saline in a sealed portable container of a
16    size determined by the dispensing pharmacist.
17        (2) Sterile water.
18        (3) Not more than 5 dosage units of any of the
19    following items in an individually sealed, unused portable
20    container:
21            (A) Heparin sodium lock flush in a concentration of
22        10 units per milliliter or 100 units per milliliter.
23            (B) Epinephrine HCI solution in a concentration of

1        one to 1,000.
2        (4) Not more than 2 dosage units of Diphenhydramine
3    (Benadryl) 50 milligrams intravenously in an individually
4    sealed, unused portable container, clearly labeled, and
5    placed in a protective carrier.
6    (b) The Department of Public Health may by rule provide for
7the possession and transportation of greater quantities of the
8drugs specified in subsection (a) by a home health agency,
9hospice, or authorized nursing employee under this Section.
