Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Illinois Municipal Code. In a Section regarding examination of applications for a position in either the fire or police department of a municipality, provides that the requirement that an applicant possess an associate's degree shall be waived if one or more of the following applies: (1) the applicant has served for 24 months of honorable active duty in the United States Armed Forces and has not been discharged dishonorably or under circumstances other than honorable or (2) the applicant has served for 180 days of active duty in the United States Armed Forces in combat duty recognized by the Department of Defense. Provides that the requirement that an applicant possess a bachelor's degree shall be waived if one or more of the following applies: (1) the applicant has served for 36 months of honorable active duty in the United States Armed Forces and has not been discharged dishonorably or under circumstances other than honorable or (2) the applicant has served for 180 days of active duty in the United States Armed Forces in combat duty recognized by the Department of Defense. Effective immediately.

Senate Floor Amendment No. 1
Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Reinserts the provisions of the introduced bill and limits the waiver of associate's degree and bachelor's degree requirements to police applicants. Effective immediately.

House Committee Amendment No. 1
Adds that a police applicant must not been dishonorably discharged or under circumstances other than honorable in order to receive a waiver of the requirement that he or she possess a bachelor's or associate's degree.

House Floor Amendment No. 2
Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Reinserts the provisions of the engrossed bill and incorporates the changes made by House Committee Amendment No. 1. Further provides that the requirement that a police applicant possess a bachelor's or associate's degree, as applicable, may be waived (currently shall be waived) under certain circumstances. Effective immediately.
