Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Civil Practice Law of the Code of Civil Procedure. Provides that a gated residential community, including a condominium association or a cooperative, shall grant unannounced entry into the community, including its common areas and common elements, to a person who is attempting to serve process on a defendant or witness who resides within or is known to be within the community.

Senate Committee Amendment No. 1
Deletes reference to:
735 ILCS 5/2-202from Ch. 110, par. 2-202
Adds reference to:
735 ILCS 5/2-203from Ch. 110, par. 2-203

Replaces everything after the enacting clause with the provisions of the introduced bill, and makes the following changes: (1) relocates the new provisions to the Section of the Code concerning service on individuals; (2) provides that a gated residential community includes housing cooperatives (instead of "cooperative") and private communities; and (3) provides that an employee of the community (instead of "the community") shall grant entry (instead of "unannounced entry") to an authorized process server (instead of "person") attempting to serve process.
