SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/27-24.9

    Amends the Driver Education Act of the School Code. Requires the State Board of Education to adopt course content standards for the classroom and laboratory phases of driver education for novice teen drivers under the age of 18 years based on the national Novice Teen Driver Education and Training Administrative Standards (rather than requiring the State Board, in consultation with the Secretary of State, to adopt course content standards for driver education for those persons under the age of 18 years). Provides that the course content standards shall include the cognitive, physiological, and psychological aspects of operating a motor vehicle (rather than the operation and equipment of motor vehicles).

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section
527-24.9 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/27-24.9)
7    Sec. 27-24.9. Driver education standards. The State Board
8of Education, in consultation with the Secretary of State,
9shall adopt course content standards for the classroom and
10laboratory phases of driver education for novice teen drivers
11those persons under the age of 18 years based on the national
12Novice Teen Driver Education and Training Administrative
13Standards. The course content standards shall include the
14cognitive, physiological, and psychological aspects of
15operating a motor vehicle. , which shall include the operation
16and equipment of motor vehicles.
