HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The American Legion is a U.S. war veterans'
3organization comprised of state, U.S. territory, and overseas
4departments along with local posts; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The American Legion was founded at the American
6Club near Place de la Concorde in Paris, France by members of
7the American Expeditionary Forces on March 15, 1919; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The American Legion was chartered by the U.S.
9Congress on September 16, 1919; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Yorkville American Legion Post #489 currently
11has over 600 members; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The American Legion Post #489 commissioned the War
13Memorial located in the United City of Yorkville Town Square,
14301 N. Bridge, Yorkville, IL 60560 in Kendall County; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The Yorkville War Memorial was dedicated by Legion
16Commander Robert Goins on May 30, 1969; the Memorial recognizes
17the Kendall County service members who made the ultimate
18sacrifice during their service in a time of war; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The American Legion Post #489 and the United City

1of Yorkville continue to maintain the Memorial in honor of
2those who have fought and died in the defense of freedom; and
 
3    WHEREAS, The sacrifices made by the 61 solders from Kendall
4County who gave their lives for freedom will forever be
5memorialized by the Yorkville Legion War Memorial; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The losses in defense of freedom felt by the City
7of Yorkville and every community across the U.S. shall be
8honored by memorial services at the War Memorial in Yorkville;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, The American Legion recently held the Annual
11Memorial Day Ceremony at the Memorial to remember and honor 61
12Yorkville and Kendall County fallen service members, as well as
13all men and women who are currently serving or have served in
14defense of freedoms and the American way of life; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Military men and women, past and present, are the
16protectors of the American way of life; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19that we commend the men and women of the American Legion for
20their vigilant support of those who serve and have served in
21the Armed Forces; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the Yorkville American Legion Post #489 as an
3expression of our esteem and respect.
