HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Kent McCanless on being selected as the 2019 Illinois Emergency Services Management Association (IESMA) Emergency Manager of the Year and commend him for his distinguished service as the director of the Woodford County Emergency Management Agency and to the residents of the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Since 2014, Kent McCanless has served as the first full-time director of the Woodford County Emergency Management Agency; he is dedicated to educating, training, and preparing Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) volunteers and residents to better prepare the State of Illinois to respond in the event of disaster; and

WHEREAS, Kent McCanless has a distinguished history of public service; he served as a storm spotter for the Eureka Emergency Services and Disaster Agency, as both a volunteer and career firefighter, as an EMT, and as a fire and life safety teacher; and

WHEREAS, Kent McCanless is active with the Care Tracking Service, an invaluable service dedicated to keeping those who suffer from Alzheimer's disease and dementia safe, active, and independent for as long as possible; and

WHEREAS, Kent McCanless works alongside area schools, nursing homes, and several community groups to improve evacuation procedures, further assisting citizens of the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Kent McCanless has extensive training as a first responder and experience in numerous natural disasters, including the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina; and

WHEREAS, Kent McCanless was presented his 2019 Illinois Emergency Manager of the Year award by IESMA President Dawn Cook; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Kent McCanless on being selected as the 2019 Illinois Emergency Services Management Association Emergency Manager of the Year, and we commend him for his distinguished service as the director of the Woodford County Emergency Management Agency and to the residents of the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Kent McCanless as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
