SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Patrick Carl Matchette of Winthrop Harbor, who passed away on May 20, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Matchette grew up in Wheaton and served five years in the U.S. Navy Reserve; he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois and a degree in biochemistry from Purdue University; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Matchette retired from Abbott Laboratories after 20 years with the Agricultural Research and Development division; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Matchette was a scientist, a farmer, a master gardener, an avid reader, and a lifelong learner who valued education greatly and instilled that love of learning in his children; he appreciated humor and always had a pun or joke to share; he enjoyed politics, books, history, old western TV shows, Cubs baseball, and many other topics; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Matchette was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Priscilla (Groustra); and

WHEREAS, Patrick Matchette is survived by his children, Rebecca Matchette (Michael Messina), Roy Matchette (Doreen), Ruth Matchette, Gail Matchette, and Audrey Pinto (Tony); his grandchildren, Patrick, Evan, Jacob, Caleb, Virginia, Lukas, Nina, Marcela, Zachary, and Priscilla; and his great-grandchild, Elliot; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Patrick Carl Matchette and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Patrick Matchette as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
