SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Scott E. Lawrence of East Moline, who passed away on September 21, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Scott Lawrence was born in Hollywood, California to Earl and Peggy Lawrence on June 4, 1966; he attended school in Upland, California and graduated from Upland High School in 1984; in 1990, he joined the United States Army and served in the Gulf War; upon his return to the United States, he settled in the Midwest; in 2001, he began his education journey; along the way, he married Annette Brauer and became a father of two; he received his Doctor of Education from Grand Canyon University in 2016; and

WHEREAS, Scott Lawrence was a professor at Eastern Iowa Community College, Black Hawk Community College, and Brown Mackie University; teaching was his passion, and he cherished the friendships with his peers and his students; and

WHEREAS, Scott Lawrence's commitment to his faith was heard in the music he played and the songs he wrote; he played with the contemporary Christian band, Janitors Heart, and the bluegrass group, Country Christians; he was an avid fan of the Beatles; and

WHEREAS, Scott Lawrence was preceded in death by his grandmother; and

WHEREAS, Scott Lawrence is survived by his father, Earl Lawrence; his mother, Peggy Rocky; his wife, Annette; his children, Oliver and Matilda; his siblings, Brent (Terry) Lawrence, Kristen Lawrence, and Amy (Dan) Jordan; several nieces and nephews; and special family friend, Charla Miller; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Scott E. Lawrence and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Scott Lawrence as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
