SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ernie A. Smith, who passed away on
4February 4, 2019 at the age of 48; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ernie Smith was born on January 29, 1970; he was
6known as "the most dapper kid on the block" during his
7childhood; although he was well-dressed, the most charming and
8impressive part of his style was his smile that was freely and
9easily given to everyone around him; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ernie Smith attended Deck Preschool and
11Kindergarten, Longfellow Grade School, and Hawthorne Junior
12High School; he graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High
13School in 1988; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Ernie Smith joined the United States Navy in San
15Diego, where he made lifelong connections and friends who
16became like brothers; he learned valuable lessons that
17benefited him later in life when he worked as a catastrophic
18claims adjuster and faced challenges during the aftermath of
19events like Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Ernie Smith had a heart for learning; he attended
21classes at Temple University to expand his knowledge and

1skills; he was a natural comedian who kept friends, colleagues,
2and families laughing and smiling; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Ernie Smith was preceded in death by his sister,
4RaSheda; his grandparents; and his uncles; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ernie Smith is survived by his mother, Joycie; his
6father, Wendell Smith; his younger sisters, Joycie, Tabitha,
7and Iris; his brother, Wendell; his nephew, Erik "Tusk"; and
8many cousins; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Ernie A. Smith and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Ernie Smith as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
