SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dorothy Mae "Dottie" Brown of Joliet at
4the age of 96; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dottie Brown was born in Joliet to Frank and Rose
6Maxwell in 1923; she graduated from Joliet Township High School
7in 1941; and
 
8    WHEREAS, During World War II, Dottie Brown worked at the
9Joliet Arsenal in Manhattan while her future husband, LaVerne
10"Bitz" Brown, served in the military; after the war, they were
11married at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church; and
 
12    WHEREAS, In 1948, Dottie Brown and her husband along with
13their high school friends Paul and Vicki Lambrecht formed Brown
14and Lambrecht Earthmovers; the company grew to become a major
15regional civil contractor, providing gainful employment to
16thousands of individuals throughout Illinois and the Midwest;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, For the last 60 years, Dottie Brown supported a
19number of local non-profit service organizations, including
20the Joliet Area Community Hospice, the Sisters of St. Francis
21of Mary Immaculate, the University of St. Francis, Lewis

1University, Joliet Catholic Academy, Providence High School,
2the Silver Cross Foundation, St. Joseph Hospital,
3Childerguild, and the Diocese of Joliet; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dottie Brown was a lifelong parishioner at St.
5John the Baptist Catholic Church; she and her husband were
6strong advocates for Joliet and Will County and will be
7remembered for their philanthropy and tireless dedication to
8local education, health care, and service to those in need;
9From humble beginnings, she was continuously grateful for her
10life's blessings; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dottie Brown was preceded in death by her husband
12of 67 years, LaVerne "Bitz" Brown; her parents; her brother,
13Frank (Betty) Maxwell; her sister, Lorraine (Jim) Bily; her
14parents-in-law, Seward and Florence Brown; her brother-in-law,
15Wayne Brown; her sister-in-law, Joan (LaVerne "Chip") Vollmer;
16and her niece, Marybeth Dopudja; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dottie Brown is survived by her nieces, Candy
18(Mike) Wagner, Cindy (Jeff Berry) Bily, Marcia Maxwell, Sharon
19(Jack) Tweedle, and Susan (John) Reed; her nephews, James (Emi)
20Brown, Michael (Janine) Vollmer, Mark (Jan) Maxwell, Jim
21(Linda) Bily, Tim (Nadine) Bily, Mike (Christy Ford) Bily, and
22Patrick (Julie) Bily; her cousin, Marlene Walker; numerous
23great-nieces and great-nephews; her loving caregivers,

1Katarzyna Gorna and Rose Petty; and her many dear friends,
2including George and Regina Block, Jeanette D'Arcy, Jeanne
3Jacobs, and Bob and Rosemary Stephen; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6Dorothy Mae "Dottie" Brown and extend our sincere condolences
7to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
8it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Dottie Brown as an expression of our
11deepest sympathy.
