SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Private First Class Miguel A. Villalon of
4Joliet, who passed away in Afghanistan on January 11, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, PFC Villalon was raised in the Rio Grande Valley
6of Texas; he attended school in Brownsville, Texas from 2004 to
72013; he attended East Aurora High School, where he became
8captain of the JROTC drill team; and
 
9    WHEREAS, PFC Villalon joined the U.S. Army in 2018; he was
10assigned to the 307th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 3rd Brigade
11Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division based in Fort Bragg, North
12Carolina; and
 
13    WHEREAS, PFC Villalon was killed after an improvised
14explosive device struck his vehicle in Kandahar province,
15Afghanistan; he was participating in Operation Freedom's
16Sentinel, a U.S. training and counterterrorism mission; he was
17on his first combat deployment and was awarded a Purple Heart
18and the Bronze Star Medal; and
 
19    WHEREAS, PFC Villalon was remembered by friends as being
20funny and peppy; he was also noted for being a great singer,
21someone who always made time for others, and a peacemaker; and

1    WHEREAS, PFC Villalon is survived by his mother and his
2father; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5Private First Class Miguel A. Villalon and extend our sincere
6condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
7him; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of PFC Miguel Villalon as an expression
10of our deepest sympathy.
