SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

625 ILCS 5/6-206.3 new

Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that, if a person is convicted of a felony or misdemeanor under any law of this State and he or she used a vehicle in the commission of the offense, the court has discretion to order suspension of the person's driving privileges, for not more than 6 months for a first offense in which a vehicle was used, and for not more than one year for a second or subsequent offense in which a vehicle was used.

A BILL FOR

AN ACT concerning vehicles.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding Section 6-206.3 as follows:

(625 ILCS 5/6-206.3 new)

Sec. 6-206.3. Court-ordered suspension of driving privileges; use of a vehicle in the commission of a criminal offense.

(a) A court may order the suspension of the driving privileges of any person convicted of a misdemeanor or felony under any law of this State if the person used a vehicle in committing the offense. The court may order suspension of the person's driving privileges for not more than 6 months for a first offense in which a vehicle was used. The court may order suspension of the person's driving privileges for not more than one year for a second or subsequent offense in which a vehicle was used.

(b) The clerk of the circuit court shall forward the court's order to the Secretary of State.

(c) The Secretary shall suspend the person's driving privileges in accordance with the court's order.
