HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives would like to commend Mary Nell Chew of Carbondale for her generous donation of $83,000 to fund an Honor Flight, giving approximately 85 veterans an opportunity to see the memorials and sights of Washington D.C.; and

WHEREAS, While Mary Nell Chew is not a veteran herself, she has six veterans in her family and wanted to honor those who served our nation by giving them an opportunity they would never forget; and

WHEREAS, Mary Nell Chew had applied to be a guardian with the Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois but was denied due to being "too old"; instead, she presented the organization with an $83,000 check, which helped many veterans experience their first Honor Flight; and

WHEREAS, Mary Nell Chew's donation funded the fifth Honor Flight for the Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois; it departed on May 14, 2019 with more veterans onboard than any other previous flight; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Mary Nell Chew for her generous donation and eagerness to honor those who have served our nation, and we hope all of the veterans on this Honor Flight had a fantastic day in Washington D.C.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mary Nell Chew as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
