HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Margaret
4P. "Peg" Price of Naperville, who passed away on April 26, 2020
5at the age of 87; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Peg Price was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on
7April 8, 1933; she married her high school sweetheart Chuck
8Price in 1953, and together they raised two sons, Steven and
9Timothy; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Peg Price and her family moved to Naperville in
111967 and decided they would raise their family there; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Peg Price quickly became active in her community
13and served on several appointed committees and commissions
14before being elected to public office; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Peg Price served on the Naperville City Council
16and was then elected as the City of Naperville's first female
17mayor, a post she held from 1983 to 1991; and
 
18    WHEREAS, While serving as mayor, Peg Price was credited
19with starting the Naperville "State of the City Address" and
20for beginning the planning for the current Naperville Municipal

1Center and the creation of Naperville's water utility; and
 
2    WHEREAS, During Peg Price's time as mayor, Naperville built
3a fire station, relocated the Nichols Library, and built the
4city's first parking deck on Chicago Avenue; she later helped
5assemble a committee to support construction of the outdoor
6concert center in Central Park; and
 
7    WHEREAS, In addition to holding elected positions, Peg
8Price served as a member of the Northeastern Illinois Planning
9Commission for eight years and as part of the DuPage Mayors and
10Managers Conference for three years; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Peg Price was also the first woman to regularly
12attend meetings and to join the Rotary Club of Naperville when
13the organization welcomed women as members in 1987; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Peg Price's community involvement was also
15evident through her work with the Maplebrook II Home Owner's
16Association, the Naperville Area Homeowners Confederation, the
17League of Women Voters, the Naperville Riverwalk Commission,
18various political campaigns, Loaves & Fishes at St. Raphael's,
19and several charity golf outings and other fundraisers; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Peg Price's devotion to volunteerism helped
21cultivate many other community assets, including the

1development of the Naperville Riverwalk for the city's
2sesquicentennial anniversary; and
 
3    WHEREAS, In 2005, the Daily Herald named Peg Price to their
4list of Naperville's 25 most influential people; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Peg Price was a valued role model for many and had
6a positive impact on countless individuals throughout her adult
7life; she lived according to the Rotary motto of "Service Above
8Self"; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Peg Price's children, her grandchildren, and all
10who knew her can be proud of her legacy and the lasting impact
11she had on the City of Naperville, DuPage County, and the State
12of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we mourn the passing of Margaret P. "Peg" Price and extend our
16sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
17and loved her; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Peg Price as an expression of our
20appreciation of her service to the people of Naperville and as
21an expression of our deepest sympathy.
