SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Henry J. "Hank" Paulus, who passed away
4on February 21, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Hank Paulus was born in Chicago to Henry and Mary
6(Slama) Paulus on December 29, 1929; he graduated from St.
7Teresa School in 1943 and Lane Tech High School in 1947; he
8served in the Illinois National Guard, Ambulance Company, 108
9Medical Battalion, 33rd Division, from June 1948 to May 1959;
10he married Diane Stasko on October 3, 1953; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Hank Paulus was employed by Met Life for 14 years
12and Allstate Insurance Company for 24 years until his
13retirement in January 1993; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Hank Paulus served the Village of Lake Zurich as
15clerk from 1961 to September 1968, as trustee until May 1969,
16as president from 1969 to 1989, and as a member of the Zoning
17Board of Appeals from 1993 to 2015, serving for a time as
18chairman and vice chairman; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Hank Paulus helped establish a solid commercial
20base for the residents of Lake Zurich and the first paramedic
21program in Lake County; he assisted in bringing Good Shepherd

1Hospital to the area; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Hank Paulus served as chairman of the Council of
3Mayors for the Chicago Area Transportation Study, which brought
4millions of dollars to Lake County for many transportation
5projects; he worked with the mayors in the six-county area to
6revamp the RTA; in addition, during his tenure, he served as
7co-chairman of the Lake Zurich Centennial Celebration; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Hank Paulus coached Lake Zurich youth baseball for
914 years, serving as league president for two; he was a member
10of St. Francis de Sales Church in Lake Zurich, where he served
11as an usher for over 60 years and as an original eucharistic
12minister for over 40 years; he also served on the Finance
13Council, on the Building and Grounds Committee as chairman, as
14president of the Holy Name Society, as trustee of the Parish,
15and as trustee of the Joseph Firnbach Foundation; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Hank Paulus was preceded in death by his wife of
1750 years, Diane; his parents; and his grandparents; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Hank Paulus is survived by his sons, David, Kurt
19(Debbie), and Steven (Janet); his grandchildren, Michael
20(Amy), Amy, Cassie (Andres) Ronancio, Matthew (Whitney),
21Jacob, and Hannah; his great-grandchildren, Michael Jr.,
22Meredith, Morgan, Ava, Rylee, and Cruz; his sister-in-law,

1Charlene Stasko; his nieces, Michelle Cereghino and Nancy
2(John) Zumski; his nephew, Chris (Julie); and numerous other
3family members and friends; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6Henry J. "Hank" Paulus and extend our sincere condolences to
7his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
8further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Hank Paulus as an expression of our
11deepest sympathy.
