SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Joseph Peck of Wilmette on
4 Thursday, November 30, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on October 9, 1925 in Chicago to Hyman
6 and Sonia Peckerman; he was united in marriage to the former
7 Roslyn Mendell on November 23, 1950, and they recently
8 celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He grew up in the Humboldt Park neighborhood and
10 was a member of the Humboldt Park Boys Club, where he played
11 basketball, baseball, and tennis; he helped his parents by
12 working in their Devon Avenue newsstand on Saturday nights and
13 held various jobs as a dime store clerk, movie theater usher,
14 and shoe salesman; he expressed his creativity by painting
15 pictures from ages 12 to 18; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He graduated from Tuley High School in 1941 at the
17 age of 16 and was admitted into Chicago Teachers College, where
18 he started as center for the basketball team and was sports
19 editor for the Chicago Teachers College newspaper; he served in
20 the Army Air Corps during World War II and then returned to
21 obtain an accounting degree from DePaul University in 1947; and
 
22     WHEREAS, He became a CPA in 1950 and subsequently graduated
23 from DePaul Law School in 1956; he was admitted to the Illinois
24 State Bar in 1956, the Florida Bar in 1975, and was certified
25 in Florida as one of only 300 tax specialists; in 1958 Joe and
26 his family moved to Wilmette and were founding members of the
27 Beth Hillel Congregation; he was active as a Democratic
28 Precinct Captain from 1958 to 1970; and
 
29     WHEREAS, Joe and his family liked to travel and took
30 numerous vacations around the world, including Spain, Romania,

1 Morocco, and Portugal; he was an avid athlete and sports
2 spectator and loved playing tennis with his children and square
3 dancing with his wife; and
 
4     WHEREAS, The passing of Joseph Peck has been deeply felt by
5 many, especially his wife, Roslyn Peck; his children, Kerry
6 (Hillary), Kraig (Donna), Kevin (Roxanne), and Klaudeen
7 (Frank) Valdivia; his grandchildren, Haley, Brandon, Louis,
8 Russell, David, Josh, Keenen, and Kameron; and his sister,
9 Lillian Ronick; he was preceded in death by his son, Keenen;
10 therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
12 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13 Joseph Peck, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
14 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15 further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
18 sympathy.
