HOUSE RESOLUTION

2     WHEREAS, In accordance with House Resolution 510, offered
3 by Representative Ron Stephens during the 94th General
4 Assembly, it has been fitting that each year in observance of
5 Memorial Day that the Illinois House of Representatives has
6 continued the established memorial tradition of honoring our
7 fallen brethren by reading an annual list of all of the names
8 of those American soldiers, sailors, airman, and marines from
9 the State of Illinois that have given the ultimate sacrifice in
10 the preceding year since the previous tribute; therefore, be it

11     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that on
13 May 29th 2008, the Illinois House of Representatives shall read
14 the names of all of the soldiers, sailors, airman, and marines
15 from each of the branches of the Unites States and Illinois
16 military reserve and guard units, who have been killed in the
17 line of duty during the year since the last tribute; and be it
18 further

19     RESOLVED, That the list of fallen heroes is to be obtained
20 by the Clerk of the House of Representatives no later than May

1 soldiers, sailors, airman, and marines may be honored by the
2 Illinois House of Representatives as well as the State of
3 Illinois; and be it further

4     RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House shall, as has become
5 tradition, preface the tributary reading of names of those
6 fallen heroes with the reciting of a quote from President
7 Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address: "The world will little
8 note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never
9 forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to
10 be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought
11 here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be
12 dedicated to the great task remaining before us, that from
13 these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for
14 which they gave the last full measure of devotion, that we here
15 highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain,
16 that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom,
17 and that government of the people, by the people, for the
18 people, shall not perish from the earth."; and be it further

19     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution and a copy of the
20 ceremonial honor roll and program of the May 29, 2008 reading
21 of names be presented to the families of those fallen heroes;
22 and be it further

23     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to
