HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Greenville Advocate is the oldest continuous business in Bond County; and

WHEREAS, The first issue of the Greenville Advocate was published by Jediah F. Alexander on February 11, 1858; and

WHEREAS, The newspaper was founded to take a stand for the preservation of the Union and in support of the candidacy of Abraham Lincoln for the United States Senate; and

WHEREAS, Jediah F. Alexander was a personal friend of Abraham Lincoln and was the first of ten editors the newspaper has had in its 150 years; and

WHEREAS, The Greenville Advocate is one of the oldest newspapers in Illinois publishing under its original name; and

WHEREAS, The late Duane Reeves, a former editor, was a second generation publisher of the newspaper; and

WHEREAS, The newspaper is owned by Duane's son, Richard, and Ronda Reeves, with Richard being The Greenville Advocate's only third-generation publisher; and

WHEREAS, The Greenville Advocate is a bi-weekly newspaper that serves all of Bond County; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the staff of The Greenville Advocate and the Reeves family on the occasion of the newspaper's 150th anniversary and wish them continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be given to the Reeves family as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
