HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The Greenville Advocate is the oldest continuous
3 business in Bond County; and
 
4     WHEREAS, The first issue of the Greenville Advocate was
5 published by Jediah F. Alexander on February 11, 1858; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The newspaper was founded to take a stand for the
7 preservation of the Union and in support of the candidacy of
8 Abraham Lincoln for the United States Senate; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Jediah F. Alexander was a personal friend of
10 Abraham Lincoln and was the first of ten editors the newspaper
11 has had in its 150 years; and
 
12     WHEREAS, The Greenville Advocate is one of the oldest
13 newspapers in Illinois publishing under its original name; and
 
14     WHEREAS, The late Duane Reeves, a former editor, was a
15 second generation publisher of the newspaper; and
 
16     WHEREAS, The newspaper is owned by Duane's son, Richard,
17 and Ronda Reeves, with Richard being The Greenville Advocate's
18 only third-generation publisher; and

1     WHEREAS, The Greenville Advocate is a bi-weekly newspaper
2 that serves all of Bond County; therefore, be it
 
3     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
5 congratulate the staff of The Greenville Advocate and the
6 Reeves family on the occasion of the newspaper's 150th
7 anniversary and wish them continued success in the future; and
8 be it further
 
9     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be given
10 to the Reeves family as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
