HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the Vernon Hills Lions Club on the occasion of the club's 25th anniversary on March 14, 2008; and

WHEREAS, The Lions Club is the world's largest and oldest service organization; the club was established by a Chicago businessman and has provided services to the sight and hearing impaired since 1917; the members have since developed a sterling reputation as "knights of the blind"; and

WHEREAS, The Vernon Hills Lions Club was chartered on March 14, 1983; and

WHEREAS, The Vernon Hills Lions Club has devoted its 25 years of existence to various programs to help the hearing impaired and those with diabetes; the club has given hearing aids to needy families, especially children; the club has sponsored and directed a weekend camping experience for visually and hearing impaired children; the club has helped to obtain eye surgery for needy residents to help restore sight and prevent blindness; the club has given many scholarships named in the memory of David Nicollazi, a past president of the club, to deserving students in recognition of their community service; the club has hosted the annual SEDOL Special Olympics Awards Dinner; the club has also sponsored vision testing for children beginning school and for community residents in need, purchasing corrective eye wear for them if needed; and

WHEREAS, The Vernon Hills Lions Club is actively involved in its community; the club has hosted the Vernon Hills Blood Drive for the Village of Vernon Hills for several years; the club has developed good relations with the Park District, donating Braille signs for the park district offices during their construction; the members also participate in the Village of Vernon Hills July 4th parade, the Village Summer Celebration, and Oktoberfest; during the holiday season, the club donates gifts to the Lake County Abused Women Shelter; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Vernon Hills Lions Club are models of generosity and kindness for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the members of the Vernon Hills Lions Club on the occasion of the club's 25th anniversary and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to a representative of the Vernon Hills Lions Club as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
