HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Michael L. Klein, Senior
4 Field Representative with the AFL-CIO, on his retirement; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Michael Klein received his education from Loras
6 College in Dubuque, Iowa, obtaining a Bachelor's degree in
7 Accounting, with Economics and Philosophy as a double minor;
8 and
 
9     WHEREAS, Michael Klein has spent more than fifty years
10 working with the labor movement, first with the United Auto
11 Workers (UAW) and then with the American Federation of Labor
12 and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO); he has
13 worked across the country, from Washington, D.C., to
14 California, promoting and aiding the labor movement; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Michael Klein has had a long and colorful career,
16 including working with Cesar Chavez and the United Farm
17 Workers, United States Senator from Illinois Dick Durbin,
18 Governor Rod Blagojevich, California Governor Gray Davis, and
19 New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Michael Klein was a senior labor representative
21 with over fifty years in the labor movement; he has experience

1 in labor and management relations, legislative and political
2 action, membership education, staff training, and community
3 and public relations; he is a motivational leader with a proven
4 ability to train and mentor young union activists; and he is
5 adept in developing, building, and maintaining key community
6 partners and alliances; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Michael Klein's last position with the AFL-CIO
8 before his retirement was his appointment in the Fall of 2005
9 as Senior Field Representative; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12 congratulate Michael L. Klein on a job well done and wish him
13 nothing but the best for his future; and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to Michael L. Klein as a symbol of our respect.
