SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of William Thompson of North Chicago, who passed away on August 8, 2007; and

WHEREAS, William Thompson was born on February 17, 1936 in Charleston, Missouri; his parents were Ozzie and Leather Thompson; he gave his life to Christ at an early age; and

WHEREAS, William Thompson moved to North Chicago as a child; he graduated from North Chicago Community High School in 1955, attending college at a later time; he retired from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in North Chicago after 35 years of service; and

WHEREAS, William Thompson was dedicated to the great game of baseball; he played minor league baseball with the Cleveland Indians; he served his country in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961; he was a coach for the North Chicago Flames youth football team; he was a member of the Blue Sox Baseball Club, the Old Timer, Outcast, and the All Star Club; and he was placed in the baseball hall of fame at North Chicago Community High School; and

WHEREAS, William Thompson was preceded in death by his parents, Ozzie and Leather; his son, William Thompson, Jr.; his brothers, Johnny, Cleo, Tommie, Leather "Moe Toe", Robert "Bob", and Emmitt; his sisters, Hattie Mallory, Alamtina Sims, and Josephine Thompson; and his sisters-in-law, Cleo, Nealie, and Mary Thompson; and

WHEREAS, William Thompson is survived by his wife, Mae; his daughter, Anita Thompson; his granddaughter, Shardonnay Thompson; his brother, Eugene (Anita) Thompson; his former wife, Mary Thompson; his 4 stepsons; his 2 stepdaughters; his 13 grandchildren; his 2 great-grandchildren; his very special niece, Elizabeth "Liz" Thompson; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of William Thompson; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of William Thompson as an expression of our sympathy.
