SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Joseph Roosevelt Peabody of East St. Louis, who passed away on May 6, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Peabody was born on December 23, 1934 in East St. Louis; his parents were Clifford and Rosie Lee (Washington) Peabody; he was the fourth of five children; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Peabody attended the East St. Louis Public Schools and graduated from Lincoln Senior High School; upon his honorable discharge from the United States Navy, he enrolled at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree; he then completed a Master of Social Work degree from St. Louis University; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Peabody held various positions in the field of social services; he was employed as a social worker with Illinois Public Aid; he served as Director of the Governor Ogilvie Office of Human Resources in East St. Louis; he served as Executive Director of the Economic Opportunity Commission and the Southwestern Illinois Agency on Aging; he served as School District 189's Division Director; he was employed with the East Side Health District; and he served as an Asthma Counselor for Washington University; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Peabody's dedication to the East St. Louis community was demonstrated in his civic accomplishments; in addition to serving as a board member to various organizations, he was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.; he was also a School Board Member of School District 189 and a Precinct 36 Committee Member; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Peabody married Barbara Jean Savage on December 24, 1961; from that union, three children were born, Kimberly Lynn Peabody, Ph.D., Kraig Roosevelt Peabody, and Kendall Clifford Peabody, MBA (Jaye Lynn); he also had four grandchildren, Adrian Kendall, Kendall Clifford Jr., Jaden Joseph, and Maya Nicole Ina; he had many accomplishments throughout his life, yet he was most proud of his family; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Peabody will be remembered by all who knew and loved him as a charismatic and energetic man, a jovial and kind friend, a generous and dedicated father, a proud and supportive grandfather (PaPa), and a caring and loving husband; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Joseph Roosevelt Peabody; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joseph Peabody as an expression of our sympathy.
