SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Wanda Patricia Simmons Raymond, who
4passed away on September 5, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Wanda Raymond was born on June 27, 1944 in
6Chicago; her parents were Albert and Arnetta Simmons; she
7married Louis Raymond, Sr. on June 15, 1974; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Wanda Raymond was a lifelong resident of Chicago;
9she graduated from Englewood High School in 1963; in high
10school, she participated in pageants and was a member of the
11swim team and the camera club; in 1973, she earned her
12bachelor's degree from Chicago State University; she
13subsequently earned her master's degree from Chicago State
14University in 1983; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Early in her career, Wanda Raymond worked as a
16recreational specialist with the Chicago Park District; in
171973, she became a physical educator with the Chicago Public
18School District; during her tenure, she taught first aid and
19CPR, served as a lifeguard and water safety instructor, and
20developed and implemented a camping program; she also coached
21swimming, track, basketball, volleyball, and golf at Thomas
22Kelly, Benito Juarez, and William Rainey Harper High Schools;

1Wanda retired from Chicago Public Schools in 2008, after 25
2years of diligent and dedicated service; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Wanda Raymond was ordained a minister in the
4Church of God (Anderson, Indiana) and was a faithful and active
5member of Langley Avenue Church of God; she loved the Lord and
6served him with diligence in ministry for over 40 years; she
7served on numerous local and national boards within the Church
8of God denomination, including the Dean of Church of God
9Chicagoland Ministers and the Westmiddlesex Campground Board;
10she was also a Sunday School Superintendent, a Youth Minister
11at Vernon Park Church of God, a Minister at 44th Street Church
12of God, and a vacation bible school organizer at Langely Avenue
13Church of God; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Wanda Raymond enjoyed arts and crafts, physical
15activities, canoeing, swimming, camping, and volunteering; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Wanda Raymond was preceded in death by her parents
17and her brother, Albert Simmons, Jr.; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Wanda Raymond is survived by her husband, Louis
19Raymond; her son, Louis Raymond (Lauren); her grandson, Louis
20Charles Raymond III; her sister, Prezella (Robert) Blair; her
21brothers, Samuel (Rosa) Simmons, Donald (Thelma-Jean) Simmons,
22Garland (Cookie) Simmons, Stanford (Beverly) Simmons, and John

1Simmons; her sister-in-laws, Verna (Montgomery) Hayes, Barbara
2Young, and Tertha Durman; her brothers-in-law, Tony Raymond,
3Charles Raymond, and Clyde Raymond; and her many nieces,
4nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
7family and friends, mourn the passing of Wanda Patricia Simmons
8Raymond; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Wanda Raymond as an expression of
11our sympathy.
