SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Mardine "Deenie" McReynolds; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Mardine McReynolds was born in East Chicago
5Heights (Ford Heights) on March 23, 1947 to Marshall Berry and
6Odessa McReynolds; she attended Bloom Township High School in
7Chicago Heights and graduated from Northern Illinois
8University with a bachelor's degree in education; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Mardine McReynolds began her teaching career at
10Eisenhower High School in Blue Island; she worked at the
11University of Chicago, taught continuing education at South
12Suburban College, and then joined the staff of the American
13College of Surgeons as a Human Resource Specialist, remaining
14there for many years; she then returned to education as a music
15teacher at the Chicago International Charter School (CICS) in
16Chicago; after retiring from CICS, she returned as a volunteer
17tutor at the Pershing School in Chicago; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Mardine McReynolds came to Portland Street Church
19of God in Christ (now Goodwin Memorial Cathedral) at the age of
2014 months with her mother and remained there for more than 50
21years; she served principally in the Sunday School Department,
22starting out as a Sunday School teacher and then serving as

1Junior Sunday School Superintendent; she worked in the field
2with other ministries to help them grow and build, including
3Robinson Memorial A.M.E., New Original Church of God in Christ,
4South Shore Community Church, and many more; she played the
5piano and had a beautiful singing voice; she sang throughout
6her school years and was a member of the Kennedy-King College
7Community Chorus, the Chicago Community Chorus, the National
8A.M.E. Conference Choir, and many other choirs and singing
9groups; she was a frequent soloist at churches and weddings and
10was well-known for her beautiful rendition of "The Lord's
11Prayer"; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Mardine McReynolds was preceded in death by her
13father, Marshall, and her nephew, Larry; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Mardine McReynolds is survived by her mother,
15Odessa; her 3 brothers, Marshall, James (LaQuetia), and Myron
16(Nancy); her 2 sisters, Janis and Bettie; her 4 nephews,
17Terence, Marquis, Jonathan, and Chaz; her 5 nieces, Marcya,
18Dina, Sydney, Caroline, and Julia; her 8 great-nieces and
19nephews; her sister-in-law, Esther; and several cousins,
20including Betty Jo Taylor and Ava Stewart; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
23Mardine "Deenie" McReynolds, and extend our sincere

1condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
2her; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Mardine McReynolds as an expression
5of our deepest sympathy.
