HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Wisconsin State
4Representative Annette Polly Williams on her retirement; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Representative Williams was born on January 10,
61937, in Belzoni, Mississippi; she is a graduate of North
7Division High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and she received
8her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of
9Wisconsin-Milwaukee; she is the mother of four, grandmother of
10seven, and great-grandmother of two; and
 
11    WHEREAS, She was elected to serve the 10th Assembly
12District in 1980; she was the longest serving woman in the
13history of the Wisconsin State Legislature until her retirement
14decision; she has the distinction of being the first Democratic
15Legislator in Wisconsin history to be appointed a committee
16chair by a Republican controlled Legislature; and
 
17    WHEREAS, During her time with the Wisconsin State
18Legislature she has served on a variety of committees,
19including: Women and Minorities, Commerce and Community
20Affairs, Primary and Secondary Education, Consumer and
21Commercial Credit, Census and Redistricting, Financial
22Institutions, and others; she has chaired the Assembly

1Committee on Education Reform, the Assembly Committee on Urban
2Education, the Assembly Committee on Consumer Affairs, the
3Assembly Committee on Commerce and Consumer Affairs, and the
4Assembly Committee on Small Business; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Representative Williams has received many awards,
6including: the National Black Caucus of State Legislators
7Presidents Award for Distinguished Service in 1990, the United
8Community Center's Friends of the Hispanic Community Award in
91991, Freedom Magazine's 1992 National Human Rights Award, the
10University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's 1998 Life Time Achievement
11Award, the Milwaukee Times' Black Excellence (Pioneer) Award in
122001, and the Ouadrevon Hennings' Foundation Award; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Representative Williams plans on spending more
14time with her family and her church, while continuing to stay
15involved with the community and fighting for issues relating to
16children and their families; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
19congratulate Wisconsin State Representative Annette Polly
20Williams on her retirement and wish her all the best in her
21future endeavors; and be it further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
