HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Lynwood Police Department Deputy Chief Greg Szymanski on the occasion of his retirement on August 26, 2011, after 29 years of dedicated service in law enforcement; and

WHEREAS, Greg Szymanski began his career in law enforcement in 1972 as a radio operator in Glenwood; after becoming a part-time police officer in East Hazel Crest in 1974, he was hired to serve full-time in 1975; he was subsequently promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1976; and

WHEREAS, Greg Szymanski was hired by the Lynwood Police Department on December 11, 1978; after being promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1982, he became the Chief of Police in Lynwood in 1983; he served in that position until 1991; he eventually retired as Lynwood's Deputy Chief of Police and head of the joint dispatch center that serves East Hazel Crest, Lynwood, and Thornton; and

WHEREAS, Greg Szymanski was instrumental in the creation of the Joint Dispatch Center at the Lynwood Police Department; he is also recognized as a leader in the South Suburbs in the telecommunications field; and

WHEREAS, Greg Szymanski was a graduate of the 158th session of the FBI National Academy; and

WHEREAS, Greg Szymanski was one of the founding board members of the South Suburban Emergency Response Team; he also served on the Executive Board of South Suburban Association of Chiefs and on various committees, including the Executive Development Conference Committee; and

WHEREAS, Greg Szymanski and his wife, Christine, reside in Beecher, where he also serves as a village trustee; his son, David, serves as an officer with the Joliet Police Department and his daughter, Kathryn, is currently attending chef's school at Louis University in Joliet; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Greg Szymanski on the occasion of his retirement and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Greg Szymanski as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
