HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Lynwood Police
4Department Deputy Chief Greg Szymanski on the occasion of his
5retirement on August 26, 2011, after 29 years of dedicated
6service in law enforcement; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Greg Szymanski began his career in law enforcement
8in 1972 as a radio operator in Glenwood; after becoming a
9part-time police officer in East Hazel Crest in 1974, he was
10hired to serve full-time in 1975; he was subsequently promoted
11to the rank of sergeant in 1976; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Greg Szymanski was hired by the Lynwood Police
13Department on December 11, 1978; after being promoted to the
14rank of sergeant in 1982, he became the Chief of Police in
15Lynwood in 1983; he served in that position until 1991; he
16eventually retired as Lynwood's Deputy Chief of Police and head
17of the joint dispatch center that serves East Hazel Crest,
18Lynwood, and Thornton; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Greg Szymanski was instrumental in the creation of
20the Joint Dispatch Center at the Lynwood Police Department; he
21is also recognized as a leader in the South Suburbs in the
22telecommunications field; and

1    WHEREAS, Greg Szymanski was a graduate of the 158th session
2of the FBI National Academy; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Greg Szymanski was one of the founding board
4members of the South Suburban Emergency Response Team; he also
5served on the Executive Board of South Suburban Association of
6Chiefs and on various committees, including the Executive
7Development Conference Committee; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Greg Szymanski and his wife, Christine, reside in
9Beecher, where he also serves as a village trustee; his son,
10David, serves as an officer with the Joliet Police Department
11and his daughter, Kathryn, is currently attending chef's school
12at Louis University in Joliet; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we congratulate Greg Szymanski on the occasion of his
16retirement and wish him many happy and healthy retirement
17years; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to Greg Szymanski as a symbol of our esteem and
20respect.
