SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Theresa Ann Funke of Batavia, formerly of Evanston, Indiana, who passed away August 26, 2011; and

WHEREAS, She was born February 21, 1952 in Evansville, Indiana, the daughter of Ludwig and Marie (nee Greif) Funke; she was united in marriage to Stephen DeCoursey; she graduated in 1970 from Memorial High school in Evansville and received her BFA in 1974 from Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame and her MFA from American University in 1976; and

WHEREAS, To share her knowledge of art, she later received her teaching degree from Northern Illinois University; she had many interests, including travel (especially Italy), horses, home building, cooking, photography, but especially art; she loved interacting, challenging, and guiding her students in all forms of art and was repeatedly recognized by students at Naperville Central High School for being an inspiration in their learning; and

WHEREAS, She lived her faith and was passionate in sharing and exploring her interests with friends and family, near and far; her grace, exuberance, and passion for life will be missed; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents; and

WHEREAS, Theresa Funke is survived by her beloved husband, Stephen; her sons, Kellen Daniel and Devin Patrick DeCoursey; her siblings, Caroline (David) Pyle, Rose Marie (George) Brothers, Mary (John) MacCauley, Ludwig (Rebecca) Funke, and Christine (Robert) Goad; and many dear nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Theresa Funke; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Theresa Funke as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
