SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James L. Althoff Sr. of McHenry, who passed away on November 8, 2011; and

WHEREAS, James Althoff Sr. was born on June 9, 1928, in McHenry; he graduated from McHenry Community High School in 1946; he married Joan Andreen on June 18, 1949, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in McHenry; and

WHEREAS, James Althoff Sr. founded Althoff Industries (then Althoff Heating and Air) in 1962; the company, which only had 2 employees at its founding, grew into a business with about 150 employees today; under his guidance, the company became one of the largest mechanical contractors in the State; and

WHEREAS, James Althoff Sr. was a tireless community volunteer who served on the boards of many organizations; he was a member of the McHenry High School District 156 school board from 1967 to 1979 and the Illinois Board of Governors of Higher Education from 1980 to 1991; he was a volunteer fireman and then later served as the president of the McHenry Fire Protection District for more than 20 years; he was also a trustee of the Local 130 Plumbers Union, a board member of Home State Bank in Crystal Lake, and a former president of McHenry Country Club; and

WHEREAS, James Althoff Sr. was preceded in death by his son, Timothy, and his sisters, Betty Phelan and Ethel Conway Low; and

WHEREAS, James Althoff Sr. is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Betsy (Tom) Les, Tod (Kim) Althoff, Catherine Althoff (Joel Galanty), Patricia (John) Siwicki, James, and Karyn (David) Roelke; his daughter-in-law, Illinois State Senator Pamela Althoff; his 13 grandchildren; his great-granddaughter; and his sister, Eleanor Wiater; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of James L. Althoff Sr.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Althoff Sr. as an expression of our sympathy.
