SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Valentine G. Lazzaretto of Lake Forest, who passed away on October 21, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Valentine Lazzaretto was born on August 4, 1924, in Centerville, Iowa; his parents were George and Marghreta (Cora) Lazzaretto; and

WHEREAS, Valentine Lazzaretto began working in the Iowa coalmines at the age of 16; he subsequently enlisted in the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, Valentine Lazzaretto was a decorated World War II veteran; he fought in the battles of Leyte Gulf and Okinawa and received 3 Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star with clusters; and

WHEREAS, Valentine Lazzaretto served as the President and Business Manager of Laborers Local #152 in Highland Park; he also served as Vice-President of the Lake County Building Trades, Trustee of the Laborers Pension Fund, Executive Board Member of the Laborers District Council, and Trustee of the Chicagoland Laborers Training Fund; and

WHEREAS, Valentine Lazzaretto was a member of Highland Park Moose Lodge, where he founded the Highland Park Moose Men's Hunting Club; he was also a member of the National Rifle Association, the Highwood Bocce Ball Club, the Highwood VFW and American Legion, the Lake Forest chapter of the Knights of Columbus, and the Church of Saint Mary in Lake Forest; and

WHEREAS, Valentine Lazzaretto enjoyed traveling and watching the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs; and

WHEREAS, Valentine Lazzaretto is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Mary; his sisters, Mary (Albino) Dal Ponte and Rose (Martin) Tagliapietra; and his brother, Joe (Roseanne) Lazzaretto; and

WHEREAS, Valentine Lazzaretto is survived by his son, Vallie G. (Susan) Lazzaretto; his daughter, Dora Lazzaretto; his brother, John (Angie) Lazzaretto; his sister, Jennie (the late Angelo) Maddalon; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Valentine G. Lazzaretto; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Valentine Lazzaretto as an expression of our sympathy.
