SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of William J. "Bill" Peterson of Rantoul, who passed away on July 28, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Bill Peterson was born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on June 30, 1949 to William J. and Elizabeth (nee Schofield) Peterson; he married Cheryl Nelson on September 12, 1970; he served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant; and

WHEREAS, Following his time in the military, Bill Peterson worked as a civilian at Chanute Air Force Base, repairing the trainers that were used to train active-duty U.S. Air Force personnel; for the last 20 years, he was a boiler room operator; and

WHEREAS, Bill Peterson was affectionately known as "Billy" or "Pete"; he enjoyed bowling and fishing in his younger years and was always working on his car, washing and waxing it by hand; he had a passion for cooking and making people happy through the food he made; most of all, he loved spending time with his family; and

WHEREAS, Bill Peterson was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Sharon Peterson; and

WHEREAS, Bill Peterson is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Cheryl; his daughter, Christine (Troy) Bergman; his son, Erik (Beth) Peterson and their children, Leslie, Hannah, and Jonah; his sister, Sandra Thornton; his 2 brothers, Mike (Jeannie) Peterson and Pat (Leslie) Peterson; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of William J. "Bill" Peterson, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bill Peterson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
