SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are proud to honor those who have given their lives in the defense of our nation; and

WHEREAS, Cpl. Robert D. Janssen was born in Bloomington to Arthur G. and Eva Johnson Janssen on January 6, 1948; he graduated from Minonk-Dana-Rutland High School in 1966 and worked for B.F. Goodrich; and

WHEREAS, Cpl. Janssen joined the U.S. Army on July 10, 1967; he received basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and advanced training at Fort Lewis, Washington; he was stationed in Germany and then arrived in Vietnam on April 1, 1968; and

WHEREAS, Cpl. Janssen was killed in action in Vietnam on June 3, 1968; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of Interstate 39 in Illinois from Exit 22 to Exit 27 as the "Cpl. Robert D. Janssen Memorial Highway"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs giving notice of the name of "Cpl. Robert D. Janssen Memorial Highway"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the family of Cpl. Janssen, the Mayor of Minonk, and the Secretary of Transportation.
