SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Anna Marie Abdula of Waukegan, who passed
4away on August 25, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Anna Abdula was born in Duluth, Minnesota to Mary
6and Tom Brackett on February 16, 1928; her family relocated to
7Waukegan in 1933, and she graduated from Waukegan Township High
8School in 1947; she joined St. John's United Church of Christ,
9where she sang in the choir and was a soloist for many special
10occasions; she married Fred Abdula in 1949; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Anna Abdula, along with her husband Fred, founded
12Air Con Refrigeration and Heating, a successful Waukegan-based
13business now in its second generation of operation; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Anna Abdula was active in the local community; she
15volunteered at local hospital nurseries and at her children's
16school, where she was elected Secretary/Treasurer of the PTA
17and was a founding member of the Washington School Book Club;
18she also participated in several fundraising events which
19benefitted local hospitals, such as the Festival of Trees,
20Chef's Cuisine and the Affair of the Heart; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Anna Abdula and Fred were philanthropists and

1donated resources for projects such as the refurbishment of the
2Genesee Theater; their generous donation created the Abdula
3Scholarship at the College of Lake County in 1995; her
4achievements and contributions to causes that promoted the
5advancement of women were recognized by the Park Place Center
6and the Waukegan Township Board when she was presented with the
7Woman of Honor Award in 2010; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Anna Abdula was never one to turn down a new
9challenge, and she took up golf in her late fifties; she
10enjoyed playing with her friends in the Ladies' League at the
11country club; in her free time, she enjoyed baking, gardening,
12entertaining, caring for her pets, and traveling; she will be
13remembered for her roles as devoted wife, loyal friend, beloved
14sibling, and loving mother; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Anna Abdula was preceded in death by her husband
16of 63 years, Fred; her parents; her sister, Lois Brackett
17Sisty; and her brother, Tom Brackett; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Anna Abdula is survived by her children, Linda
19(James) Considine, Patrick Abdula, Michael Abdula, and Lisa
20Abdula; and her many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1Anna Marie Abdula and extend our sincere condolences to her
2family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
3further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Anna Abdula as an expression of our
6deepest sympathy.
