SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John S. "Jack" Shales of Elgin, who
4passed away on January 26, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jack Shales was born in Elgin on November 13,
61930; he married Marlene Kane, his high school sweetheart, in
71954; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Jack Shales served in Korea with the United States
9Marine Corp from 1951 until 1953; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jack Shales began working at Illinois Hydraulic
11Construction Co. in 1954; after 27 years with Illinois
12Hydraulic, he co-founded the construction company
13Seagren/Shales, Inc.; in 2001, he was a founding partner of
14Shales McNutt Construction, where he remained a valuable asset
15throughout his life; he always found ways to make each of his
16employees feel valued and appreciated; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Jack Shales loved the Elgin community and was
18involved in many civic and charitable organizations; he was a
19prolific fundraiser and was involved in the United Way of Elgin
20campaigns for more than 60 consecutive years; at the time of
21his passing, he was actively raising money for the Elgin

1YMCA-owned Camp Edwards; his desire to "give back" has
2benefitted countless lives; he was a member of Cornerstone
3United Methodist Church in Plato Center, where he enjoyed
4participating in the Corinthians class; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jack Shales is survived by his wife, Marlene; his
6children, Michael (Trecia) Shales, Kristin (Doug) Durham,
7Heidi (Jeff) Baudry, and John (Shelly) Shales; his
8grandchildren, Anna (Frank) Machniak, Gwen Shales (Kyle
9Johnson), Leah (Dan) Roe, Jack F. Shales, Raven and Hope
10Shales, Kyle and Jesse (Sabrina) Durham, Zak and Alec Baudry,
11Sydney, Matthew, Ellen, and Jake Shales; and his
12great-grandchildren, Asher and Etta Johnson, Lillian and
13Timothy Machniak, and Baby Roe (due this summer); therefore, be
14it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17John S. "Jack" Shales and extend our sincere condolences to his
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Jack Shales as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
