SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of R-Lou Barker of Springfield, who passed
4away on April 21, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, R-Lou Barker was born in McPherson, Kansas to John
6Clifford and Hazel Dell Washburn Porter on December 18, 1933;
7she attended schools in Centralia, Missouri and Glenarm,
8Illinois; she graduated from Ball Township High School and
9attended the University of Illinois at Springfield; she married
10Morton Darrell Barker Jr. in Chicago on June 29, 1953; and
 
11    WHEREAS, R-Lou Barker was a community advocate; she was
12active at the board level of many organizations, including the
13Daughters of the American Revolution, the Land of Lincoln Girl
14Scout Council, the Springfield Art Association, the
15Springfield Symphony Women's Board, the Vachel Lindsay
16Association, the Illinois State Museum Society, and the
17Illinois State Museum; her dedication to the preservation of
18historic sites was demonstrated by her long-term service on the
19Springfield Historic Sites Commission and the Dana-Thomas
20House Foundation; she also served as Chairman of the Illinois
21Center for the Book and the Illinois Committee for the National
22Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.; and

1    WHEREAS, R-Lou Barker was an avid traveler; she visited
2both the North and South Poles and every continent; she
3believed there was "always another adventure to be
4experienced"; and
 
5    WHEREAS, R-Lou Barker was preceded in death by her parents;
6her husband, Morton; her son, Morton Darrell Barker III; and
7her sister, Ruth Porter Shepherd; and
 
8    WHEREAS, R-Lou Barker is survived by her sons, Robert
9(Anne), Jess (Barbara), John, and Paul; her seven
10grandchildren, her three great-grandchildren; her sister,
11Martha (Bob) Fielding; and her three nieces and nephews;
12therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15R-Lou Barker and extend our sincere condolences to her family,
16friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of R-Lou Barker as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
