SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert Carl "Bob" Bruss of Huntley, who
4passed away on March 9, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Bruss was born in Monroe, Wisconsin to Carl
6and Anna (Hoffman) Bruss on July 29, 1937; he served in the
7United States Air Force National Guard and married Sue Downing
8Bruss in Glen Ellyn on January 26, 1963; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Robert Bruss was a landscape architect and member
10of the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association; along with
11his siblings and his parents, he founded Bruss Nursery and
12Landscaping in Lombard in 1952; the business later moved to
13Wheaton, where it is now in its 65th year under the
14third-generation leadership of his son, Eric; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Robert Bruss enjoyed chocolate and raspberries
16and snatching a bite of food from the plate of an unsuspecting
17fellow diner; he was a Harris Fellow of Rotary International, a
18founder of Friends of Wildflower Lake in Sun City, an avid
19fisherman, a golfer, and a lover of old movies; he and his wife
20traveled to all 50 states and all seven continents; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Robert Bruss was preceded in death by his parents

1and his sister, Sue Greenen; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Robert Bruss is survived by his wife, Sue; his
3children, Cindy (Tim) Sullivan, David (Elizabeth), and Eric
4(Pam); his grandchildren, Patrick and Corrinne Sullivan, Kiley
5and Ellie Bruss, and Austin and Phillip Bruss; his "adopted"
6daughter, Delia (Philip) Silveira, and their daughter,
7Daniella; his wonderful caregivers, Maria Cabellos, and
8Roselle Taruc; his sisters, Marianne (Tom) Crane, and Nance
9Bruss; his brother, William (Marianne) Bruss; his
10sisters-in-law, Jean (Don) Oliver, and Ann (Hans) Brebeck; his
11brother-in-law, Bill (Kay) Downing; and many cousins, nieces,
12and nephews; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Robert Carl "Bob" Bruss, and extend our sincere condolences to
16his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Robert Bruss as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
