SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Roger W. Carlson of Deerfield, who passed away on August 1, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Roger Carlson was born in Minnesota on May 27, 1928 and grew up in Edina; he served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1948 and attended the University of Minnesota; and

WHEREAS, Roger Carlson worked in advertising sales, most notably with Fortune, National Geographic, and Parade magazines; in 1979, he opened Bookman's Alley in a warehouse off Sherman Avenue in Evanston; he built the shop into a sprawling complex filled with books, antiques, and artwork; he closed the store in 2013 after more than 33 years in business; and

WHEREAS, Roger Carlson is survived by his wife, Deborah; his children, Jeffrey (Marcia) Carlson, Ann (Clifford) Miller, Leslie Carlson-Magee, and Susan and Gregory Carlson; his grandchildren, Kyle McAfee, Dillon (Ashley) McAfee, Lee (Andrew) Rizzo, Clinton, Kevin, and Jay Magee, Michael and Katherine Carlson, and Drew and Woody Miller; and his great-grandchildren, Zeyda, Frances, and Charlotte; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Roger W. Carlson, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Roger Carlson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
