SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
10 ILCS 5/22-9  from Ch. 46, par. 22-9

    Amends the Election Code. Provides that the county clerk shall send a copy of the abstract by precinct or ward and result to the State Board of Elections within 24 hours after receiving the abstract from the election authority.

1    AN ACT concerning elections.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing Section
522-9 as follows:
 
6    (10 ILCS 5/22-9)  (from Ch. 46, par. 22-9)
7    Sec. 22-9. It shall be the duty of the election authority
8to canvass and add up and declare the result of every election
9hereafter held within the boundaries of such city, village or
10incorporated town operating under Article 6 of this Act. The
11election authority shall file a certified copy of the record
12with the County Clerk of the county immediately upon completion
13of the record; and such abstracts or results shall be treated,
14by the County Clerk in all respects, as if made by the election
15authority now provided by the foregoing sections of this law,
16and he shall transmit the same, by facsimile, e-mail, or other
17electronic means, to the State Board of Elections, or other
18proper officer, as required hereinabove. Within 24 hours after
19receiving the abstract, the The county clerk or board of
20election commissioners, as the case may be, shall also send the
21abstract by precinct or ward and result in a sealed envelope
22addressed to the State Board of Elections via overnight mail so
23it arrives at the address the following calendar day. And such

1abstracts or results so declared, and a certified copy thereof,
2shall be treated everywhere within the state, and by all public
3officers, with the same binding force and effect as the
4abstract of votes now authorized by the foregoing provisions of
5this Act.
