HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is important to recognize those who contributed
3to the betterment of the State of Illinois through public
4service; and
 
5    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
6Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals who gave their
7lives in the service of the State; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
9learn of the death of Christopher "Chris" R. Brown of Hudson,
10who passed away on March 5, 2013; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Christopher Brown was born on November 9, 1973 in
12Hershey, Pennsylvania to Michael R. and Pamela S. Walters
13Brown; he graduated from Charleston High School in 1992 and
14married Amie Melton on June 7, 1997 in Peoria; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Christopher Brown was a 12-year member of the
16Bloomington Fire Department; he was also a 3-year member of the
17Hudson Community Fire Department and a 2-year member of the
18Peoria Heights Fire Department and the Morton Fire Department;
19he was a member of the Associated Firefighters of Illinois
20Honor Guard; and

1    WHEREAS, Christopher Brown enjoyed spending time with his
2family, fishing, camping, playing hockey, and watching the
3Chicago Blackhawks; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Christopher Brown was preceded in death by his
5maternal grandfather, Willis W. Walters; his paternal
6grandfather, Jack Brown; and his paternal uncle, Dana A. Clark;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Christopher Brown is survived by his wife, Amie;
9his sons, Max and Mason; his parents; his brother, Anthony M.
10(Kimberly) Brown; his sister, Jennifer Renee (Frank) Radek; his
11maternal grandmother, Beverly J. Behnke; his paternal
12grandmother, Barbara L. Kline; his in-laws, Robert and Joan
13Melton; and his many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Christopher Brown was killed in the line of duty
15while responding to a traffic accident on Interstate 39; and
 
16    WHEREAS, On March 8, 2013 Governor Quinn ordered flags
17flown at half-staff to honor firefighter Christopher Brown from
18March 9, 2013 through sunset on March 11, 2013; therefore, be
19it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE

1SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of
2Interstate 39 between Exit 8 and Exit 5 the Firefighter
3Christopher R. Brown Memorial Highway; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
5is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
6State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
7giving notice of the name; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Christopher R. Brown, the
10Bloomington Fire Department, the Hudson Community Fire
11Department, the Peoria Heights Fire Department, the Morton Fire
12Department, and the Secretary of the Illinois Department of
13Transportation.
