HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize the Calumet City Fire Department as it celebrates the 100th anniversary of its founding on September 4, 2014; and

WHEREAS, The men and women of the Calumet City Fire Department have been providing a vital public service to the city's citizens since October of 1914; and

WHEREAS, These men and women have maintained a distinguished record of service for 100 years; and

WHEREAS, The Calumet City Fire Department has continued to expand its role and face new challenges to meet the needs of the community through training and certifications in paramedicine, hazardous materials, public education, and other special operations; and

WHEREAS, The firefighters collaborated with the Chamber of Commerce in 1975, and donated hundreds of off-duty hours to raise funds to start a paramedic program that became a reality in 1976, continuing today; and

WHEREAS, All the citizens benefit from the noble efforts of these highly trained firefighter/paramedics every time they answer the alarm to combat a fire, mitigate a hazardous situation, or treat a medical emergency; and

WHEREAS, While the potential dangers of each incident are undeterminable and unknown, firefighter/paramedics in Calumet City have exemplified the highest level of public service both through their courage and their commitment to the highest standards of professionalism maintained through frequent training and re-training; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the Calumet City Fire Department as it celebrates the 100th anniversary of its founding; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Calumet City Fire Department as an expression of our esteem and respect.
