HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of James
4Albert Deanes of Chicago; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Deanes was born in Ruleville, Mississippi on
6April 23, 1948 to Ruby Watson and Jimmy Lee Deanes; he moved to
7Chicago with his family in the 1950s; he attended Grant
8Elementary School and graduated from Cregier Vocational High
9School; he studied at Washburne Trade School, becoming a
10machinist; he married Evelyn Bryant; and
 
11    WHEREAS, James Deanes began his career as an apprentice at
12Chuck & Dave Manufacturing; he then worked at ABM Industries as
13a plant manager for 27 years; he retired in 2013; and
 
14    WHEREAS, James Deanes had a passion for community
15involvement and education reform; he served as a member and
16chair of several Parent-Teacher Associations, Local School
17Improvement Councils, Local School Councils, and various
18community organizations; he was appointed chairperson of the
19Parent/Community Council, a multi-ethnic organization that
20helped spearhead community and legislative efforts aimed at
21giving parents and community members greater control over the
22governance of their children's schools through the

1establishment of local school councils; in 1996, he became the
2District Four Facilitator for the Chicago Public Schools (CPS)
3at the behest of then-CPS CEO Paul Vallas; and
 
4    WHEREAS, James Deanes was preceded in death by his wife of
538 year, Evelyn; and
 
6    WHEREAS, James Deanes and his wife had 4 sons and a
7daughter; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we mourn the passing of James Albert Deanes, and extend our
11sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
12and loved him; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of James Deanes as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
