HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Carol Johnson on
4the occasion of receiving the "2014 Best School Blood Drive
5Coordinator Award" from the Illinois Coalition of Community
6Blood Centers; and
 
7    WHEREAS, In 1997, Carol Johnson began overseeing the
8organization of annual blood drives at Harlem High School in
9Machesney Park; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Due to Carol Johnson's success, the school began
11to hold semi-annual blood drives, with some of the drives being
122 days long; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Carol Johnson has been a huge advocate for "Be the
14Match", encouraging her students to participate in the world's
15largest bone marrow registry, which links patients to
16compatible donors; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Carol Johnson has embraced the advanced
18technology that has allowed for double red cells to be
19collected at mobile drives; because of her, many students have
20been double red donors; and

1    WHEREAS, Carol Johnson works to ensure each individual
2donor is recognized by making seasonal decorations with each
3donor's name on it, which are displayed in the school; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Following Carol Johnson's retirement in 2008, she
5continued to organize the school's blood drives and has been
6responsible for the collection of well over 2,000 units of
7blood at Harlem High School; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The results of Carol's efforts will continue to be
9seen for years to come because of the critical role school
10blood drives play in cultivating lifetime donors; therefore, be
11it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we commend Carol Johnson for her selfless service to her
15community and her strong commitment to her students; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to Carol Johnson as a symbol of our respect and
19esteem.
