HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Illinois General Assembly is losing one of its own members - Illinois State Representative Mike Bost - to the United States House of Representatives; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bost was born and raised in Murphysboro; he and his wife, Tracy, have been married for 34 years and have 3 children and 9 grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bost grew up working for Bost Trucking, a small business owned by his father and uncle, doing everything from hauling coal to washing trucks on weekends; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bost began his extensive and dedicated tradition to public service with his enlistment in the United States Marine Corps right after high school; he served as an electronic specialist and radar repairman, receiving an honorable discharge as a Corporal in 1982; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bost graduated from the Certified Firefighter II Academy of the Illinois Fire Service Institute at the University of Illinois in 1993; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bost served as a part-time and full-time firefighter for the Murphysboro Fire Department; he has continued to serve the Murphysboro Fire Department during his 6 terms as State Representative on an as-needed basis; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bost was first elected to public office in 1984 when he was elected to the Jackson County Board; and

WHEREAS, In 1986, Representative Bost served as President of the Jackson County Republican Boosters and Treasurer of the Jackson County Young Republicans; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bost served as precinct committeeman for Murphysboro Precinct #4 from 1985 to 1989; he also served as Treasurer for the City of Murphysboro from 1989 to 1992 and as a Murphysboro Township Trustee from 1993 to April of 1997; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bost was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives for the first time in 1994; since that time, he has had the privilege of representing southern Illinois in the Illinois House of Representatives; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bost currently represents the 115th District, which encompasses all or part of Jackson, Jefferson, Perry, Union, and Washington Counties and the communities of Anna, Ashley, Carbondale, Cobden, De Soto, DuQuoin, Mt. Vernon, Murphysboro, Pinckneyville, and Vergennes; and

WHEREAS, On November 4, 2014, Representative Bost was elected to the United States House of Representatives from the 12th Congressional District of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives would like to thank Representative Bost for his 30 years of public service in the State of Illinois; the members of this body will miss the passionate speeches and floor debates that Representative Bost has shared with us for the last 20 years; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate State Representative Mike Bost on his election to the United States House of Representatives and wish he and his family all the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be delivered to Representative Bost and the members of the Illinois congressional delegation.
