HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Abraham Lincoln
4School in Glen Ellyn as it celebrates the 50th anniversary of
5its founding; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Abraham Lincoln School opened its doors on
7September 4, 1962; its first principal was Dwight Knous and its
8first superintendent was Dr. William Hadley; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Abraham Lincoln School had 2 sections that housed
10the classrooms and one gym; enrollment was approximately 400;
11it had 14 grade level teachers, 15 sections from Kindergarten
12to 6th grade, and 15 additional teachers/staff members; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Abraham Lincoln School was built as modern type
14architecture designed to individualize instruction to the
15potential of the child and to utilize space; of the 600
16selected schools in the U.S. at the Atlantic City School
17Building Architectural Exhibit in 1962, it won 25 merit awards
18for flexibility relative to modern school program and for
19architectural excellence; and
 
20    WHEREAS, The Abraham Lincoln School Parent Teachers
21Association was started in 1962; Mr. and Mrs. William H. Walker

1(Jo) were the presidents; Kristin Massey is the current PTA
2president; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Abraham Lincoln School has grown considerably
4throughout the years; it now has 3 sections that house most of
5the classrooms, portable classrooms, 2 gyms, and a library;
6enrollment is 602, with a diverse population that speaks over
733 different languages; there are 25 grade level teachers with
827 sections from Kindergarten to 5th grade and 44 additional
9teachers/staff; Linda Schweikhofer is the principal, and Dr.
10Ann Riebock is the superintendent; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Abraham Lincoln School's colors are blue and gold;
12its mascot is the Lincoln Leopard; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we congratulate Abraham Lincoln School on the 50th anniversary
16of its founding and we wish them many more years of success;
17and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to Abraham Lincoln School as an expression of our
20esteem and respect.
