HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Abraham Lincoln School in Glen Ellyn as it celebrates the 50th anniversary of its founding; and

WHEREAS, Abraham Lincoln School opened its doors on September 4, 1962; its first principal was Dwight Knous and its first superintendent was Dr. William Hadley; and

WHEREAS, Abraham Lincoln School had 2 sections that housed the classrooms and one gym; enrollment was approximately 400; it had 14 grade level teachers, 15 sections from Kindergarten to 6th grade, and 15 additional teachers/staff members; and

WHEREAS, Abraham Lincoln School was built as modern type architecture designed to individualize instruction to the potential of the child and to utilize space; of the 600 selected schools in the U.S. at the Atlantic City School Building Architectural Exhibit in 1962, it won 25 merit awards for flexibility relative to modern school program and for architectural excellence; and

WHEREAS, The Abraham Lincoln School Parent Teachers Association was started in 1962; Mr. and Mrs. William H. Walker (Jo) were the presidents; Kristin Massey is the current PTA president; and

WHEREAS, Abraham Lincoln School has grown considerably throughout the years; it now has 3 sections that house most of the classrooms, portable classrooms, 2 gyms, and a library; enrollment is 602, with a diverse population that speaks over 33 different languages; there are 25 grade level teachers with 27 sections from Kindergarten to 5th grade and 44 additional teachers/staff; Linda Schweikhofer is the principal, and Dr. Ann Riebock is the superintendent; and

WHEREAS, Abraham Lincoln School's colors are blue and gold; its mascot is the Lincoln Leopard; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Abraham Lincoln School on the 50th anniversary of its founding and we wish them many more years of success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Abraham Lincoln School as an expression of our esteem and respect.
